Changing My Work at Home Strategy

Last year when I joined the niche blogger course I had a plan to build as many niche blogs as I could, monetize them and get traffic to them.  This really is a great strategy for those who are interested in just niche blogging.  After all, you can build several streams of income with each blog!  However, for me trying to balance niche blogging, Squidoo and freelance writing has been a challenge; especially since I often use one to promote the other. That’s why I have changed my strategy (yet again) so that instead of trying to build several niche blogs, several Squidoo lenses and write several eHow articles I will work on one project at a time.  For example, I will continue to blog here on WAHM 101 because this is my main blog but at the same time I will be writing work at home articles for eHow and working on Squidoo lenses that focus on working at home.  That way, I am working on three projects but they all work together.

What is great about working at home is you can do what you like!  Amy Bass of the niche blogger has created several niche blogs and makes a great income with it.  We have some eHow writers with hundreds or even thousands of articles that are pulling in a decent income and still more over on Squidoo earning money by building as many Squidoo lenses as possible.  Why my strategy was flawed is I tried to do all three and could feel myself getting burned out.  Since I have scaled back I feel a lot less stress.  I may not have as many niche blogs, eHow articles or Squidoo lenses as I had hoped for but my strategy of building all three and linking them all together will serve to enhance each project.

I currently have less than ten niche blogs since I have sold a few.  For me, this number is very doable since I plan to spend more time on each blog and build around eHow and Squidoo.  For example, I started a Christmas blog last Fall and it did quite well up until January.   Starting next month I will write about 30 posts and schedule them to post every few days right through Christmas (it’s nice to put your blogs on auto-pilot).  While working on my Christmas blog I will also start building a few Christmas themed Squidoo lenses and write some Christmas related articles for eHow and link them all together so that they send traffic to each other.

So, does this sound like a plan?  So far so good for me.  My work at home strategies may not work for someone else but that’s what I love about being a WAHM; doing what I love and building a business my way!
