Telling Your Significant Other

If you have a significant other then you will want to approach him or her with your internet marketing plans.  Let him or her know that you have made the decision to start a home based business and why it is important to you.

This is a good time to go over your plan with them and  show them why this is the right choice for you.  Explain some of the perks of working at home and hopefully they will be able to share your vision with you.  The most important thing is for you to let them know that you have researched this carefully and are not taking it lightly.  If money is a concern then decide together if you are going to make the full time leap into internet marketing or if you are going to do it on a part time basis while continuing with your day job.

Also, your significant other needs to join you in the business frame of mind. Realistically it could take several months or longer before you start making any real money.  Discuss this with him or her well in advance.

Telling Friends and Family
Friends and family will probably question you and your partner about your decision and will most likely be very negative.  Sometimes the best way to handle this is to let them have their opinion.  You can simply tell them why you chose internet marketing and leave it at that.  Whatever you do, you can’t let negative people make the decision for you.  Your internet marketing business is really between you and your significant other.  Just let them have their opinion and move on.

Also, your significant other needs to join you in the business frame of mind. It might take awhile (as in several months) for your enterprise to start making money - and they should be well aware of this fact.

I was lucky that my husband has always been supportive of me working at home and even enjoys internet marketing on more of a part time basis himself.  As far as family, I don’t really talk much about it because I feel it is between my husband and myself; and if we can afford to support ourselves on what he makes on his job and what I make working from home then it really is our business.

Occasionally I do try to help someone out who is looking for ways to make extra money.  I will show them what I do and while they may seem interested at first they often lose interest at the thought of not having a steady paycheck at first.  I really wish that I could get them to understand how their lives really could change for the better in the long run but there are too many people out there that have that work-9-to-5-for-someone-else mentality.  When they mention  the desire to have a steady paycheck I tell them that there are real work at home jobs online that offer just that but far too often people are just skeptical.

Telling Your Parents
Parents and elderly relatives  are often the most negative.  With less understanding of the internet they tend to view everything as a scam.  I really don’t want to stereotype a certain generation because that is not always the case, however, more often than not your parents are going to try to convince you that whatever you are doing must be a scam.  Again, sometimes it is best to not talk about it.  The last thing that you need is to make them worry or to allow them to place self doubt in your mind.

As you face the ups and downs of working for yourself you will want ot surround yourself with positive people who think like you do.  This is the best way to keep yourself motivated during those moments that you worry about whether or not you are doing the right thing.
